New Forest Bird Camp

1st – 3rd June 2018

HOS together with the Cameron Bespolka Trust and fieldwork support from Wild New Forest have organised the first Bird Camp to be held in the New Forest. A must for any dedicated young birder aged 13-17 looking to take their passion to the next level. A range of activities will be covered including:

  • Bird Ringing
  • Nest Finding
  • Advanced ID (focusing on woodland & coastal birds)
  • Survey Techniques
  • Fieldcraft Techniques
  • Moth Trapping
  • Camera Trapping
  • Observing specialist New Forest species (Hawfinch, Nightjar, LSW, Raptors)
  • Informal talks from professionals and experts
  • Networking

The weekend will be funded by the Cameron Bespolka Trust.  This Trust has been set up in memory of Cameron, who tragically died at 16.  Cameron was a very keen birder and had an extremely strong love of the natural world.  This Trust has been created to empower today’s youth through love of nature.

It is being organised by the Hampshire Ornithological Society, which records and publishes information about wild birds in the county of Hampshire. It has over 1200 members who benefit from field meetings, occasional indoor events, and regular updates with sightings and other bird news.

Included for the weekend:  meals, accommodation and transportation during the weekend.  We do ask for a nominal contribution of £25 per person.  You’ll need to arrange your own travel to and from the Countryside Education Trust, Palace Lane, Beaulieu, Brockenhurst, Hampshire SO42 7YG.  Places are limited to 15 and these will be awarded to people demonstrating a keen interest in, and commitment to, nature conservation or ornithology.
